Scams

posted on 1/30/18

The Worth County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the citizens of Worth County about the dangers of phone scams and text scams. These sorts of calls can be irritating but also very harmful and can cause people terrible financial losses. The people behind these types of phone calls or phone scams are very good at what they do. Never give them any sensitive or personal information; (passwords, pin numbers, or bank account information exc...). Don’t let these people bully you or pressure you in anyway. Remember… You can hang-up, you don’t have to respond or talk to them. If you think something isn’t right, trust your instincts. Better to be safe. There are devices out today, which allows these scammers to fake or “spoof” a number, making it appear to be a local number or even someone you know. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot we can do to stop this from happening, but we are here 24 hours a day to answer any questions and assist with what we can. Below is a link to the Federal Trade Commission with some information that might be helpful.
