Pedestrians’ right-of-way.

1. Where traffic-control signals are not in place or in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.

Above is a refresher on the State of Iowa’s Pedestrian Right-of-Way law. This law has been discussed with Northwood’s City Council and the Worth County Sheriff’s Office will be stepping up enforcement in reference to this law. Area’s where enforcement is expected to step up includes, but is not limited to, intersections on Central Avenue (Highway 105) in Northwood. Authorities will be enforcing this law elsewhere as applicable. If found to be in violation of this law, the scheduled fine is $100 and comes out to be $200 after court costs and other fees.
